Southern California UFCW Members

Over 100,000 UFCW members just received a letter from their respective Southern California UFCW Locals. This letter addresses the on-going effort to get Albertsons, Ralphs, and Vons to honor the recent representation election they themselves endorsed.

In the coming weeks, we may need your help to bring Albertsons, Ralphs, and Vons to the bargaining table. Please check back here for further updates, speak to your Union Representatives, and keep an eye out for the next letter from your Union regarding this important matter.

Unionized Pharmacy List

In the event of a contract dispute, your UFCW representatives have compiled a comprehensive list of Unionized Pharmacies in California for your reference. Note: This list excludes all Albertsons, Ralphs, and Vons pharmacies.

Bargaining Updates

Attention: All UFCW Professional Division Pharmacists Employed by Albertsons, Ralphs and Vons

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

Following your overwhelming vote to create a separate Professional Division Bargaining Unit and continue UFCW representation, your union sent letters to Albertsons, Ralphs and Vons demanding that bargaining on the new Collective Bargaining Agreement commence immediately.

In response, your Employers took the incredible and outrageous position that they are not obligated to bargain until the termination of the 2007-2011 Retail Food Agreement.

After consultation with our attorneys, we have filed unfair labor practice charges with the Federal Government against Albertsons, Ralphs and Vons. These charges are currently under investigation.  Based on these three Employers' history of delay and avoidance tactics, we expect we may be in for an extended battle.

Your union is prepared to do everything necessary to bring these Employers to the table and to bargain the best agreement possible for you.  If your Employers do not agree to commence negotiations by October 20, 2008, the seven UFCW local unions in Southern California are prepared to send letters to all UFCW members and then to other Southern California unions asking that prescriptions be temporarily transferred to another unionized pharmacy until the Employers negotiate in good faith.

Immunizing Survey

An online 11-question survey is now available for pharmacists who provide immunization at their store or who have been requested to do so by Pharmacy Supervision.

The survey is the result of concerns expressed by Pharmacists about Vons' rollout of its immunizing program. The UFCW has met with Vons on two occasions since June 2008 regarding this program and another meeting will be scheduled in the near future.

Your input will assist your UFCW representatives in addressing all relevant issues with Vons as well as with all other Companies which are involved in similar programs.
