Special Announcement
  • Transfer Coupons on CA Board of Pharmacy Meeting Agenda
As a result of a letter by Pharmacist Patti Bruha, the California Board of Pharmacy has placed the issue of Pharmacy Incentive, or Transfer Coupons, on their January 23, 2008 meeting agenda, to be held in San Diego.

Patti is a longtime member of the UFCW, employed by Rite Aid and its predecessor companies for many years. In addition, she is an original participant in our Rite Aid Professional Relations Committee meetings.

Patti's participation has been instrumental in improving working conditions in the Rite Aid pharmacies for all Rite Aid pharmacy employees (pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy clerks). Her concern for not only the employees, but the customers as well is reflected in Patti Bruha's ideas and dedication.

  • RE: Disaster Reponse Policy and Emergency Refill Authority
The Board of Pharmacy continues to strongly support the efforts of our licensees in caring for patients impacted by the Southern California wildfires.  We have received stories of how pharmacies have been aiding patients, and in several weeks will actively seek such reports so that we can build a record.

We remind all licensees of the board's disaster response policy and the existing (everyday) authority of pharmacists to provide emergency refills of medicine when the prescriber is not available (California Business and Professions Code section 4064).

  • RE: Pharmacy Operations in Fire Affected Areas of California
California pharmacies are reminded that the Board of Phamacy has activated its emergency response provisions to all pharmacies under the authority granted it by Business and Professions Code 4062 and its disaster response policy. It is the expectation of the board that patients in or from affected areas will continue to receive prescription medicine, and pharmacists are expected to use professional judgment in providing care. The priority of the board is patient care first. Pharmacists licensed in other states are welcome to help provide pharmacy services to affected patients in California.
